Trying to get one done was a pain....the first time I went (Nov 8), I kind of slipped on forgetting that was fasting...but was going to wing it anyways. Well, the lab at my primary care facility is in the process of becoming a Quest(?) facility, and currently can't do the glucose tolerance test. But, the LabCorp upstairs can do it. I go upstairs, and they tell me its something that usually needs to be scheduled, so they said how about the 12th. I say ok, what time do I need to show up for it? "Anytime".
Well, I show up on the 12th, after getting my bi-weekly testosterone shot from the treatment clinic at my doctor's office. The clinic opens at 9am. It takes a while as usual to get through that, and then I go up to LabCorp. By the time they get things figured out (about 9:30), they say they can't do the test, because they take lunch from 12-1, so they're won't be anyone around to do the last blood draw of the GTT. They said I was supposed to show up at 7:30am when they open. No, they said anytime..and they didn't tell me what time they opened. Because had I known, I would've gone to them first and then testosterone shot. Though that might have made that a different experience.
They then said, that I could go over to the hospital to get all the tests done, where they wouldn't have a problem of running the GTT. So, I do that....extending my morning off from work to the whole day.
At least at the hospital there was both cell service and wifi. The E building is heavily shielded, so there's no cell signal and they don't provide wifi. The shielding could be for the Nuclear Medicine unit or the CT. There used to be other medical imaging in the building as well, but they have moved out to the newer G building.
Otherwise the test was largely boring, with me going back out to the waiting area between blood tests during the Glucose Tolerance test. It was pretty miserable being all hopped up on Glucose. Though they missed the hypoglycemic crash.... At the 3 hour mark, they took the final draw and sent me home. As I got home, I started to crash.....piled in some sweets and then crashed out on the sofa for a while.
So, I was told that after all these tests, that I would be know why I have the Neuropathy....though still no word on what to do about it. I suppose it depends on the cause?
Well, I have the follow appointment on December 6th. And, it was mixed.
He starts reading some of the results, B/Folic are normal, heavy metals -- negative. In fact all the things he cares about are normal. However, one of the tests...where the one item in the test that he cares about was normal...several other items were low and other items were high. At first he thinks that maybe a consult with a Hematologist might be done, to later he's going to me refer me to see one. I bring up the dizziness, which had been getting really annoying lately. He says that vestibular, But, I said he had already referred me to an ENT and the ENT says the symptoms don't fit, but did VNG and vestibular therapy done anyways...and that he thinks its neurological.
He mutters well it could be related to Narcolepsy, but you don't have Narcolepsy just Sleep Apnea.
But, he asks if I've had an MRI of my head done, last one was when I first started seeing him. So, he orders me up another MRI...which I'll get next week, and later I learn that he's made a referral for me to get vestibular treatment in Topeka....Jan 7. Eventually, I get call about Hematologist....appointment on Jan 8.
No word on when I'm supposed to follow up back with the Neurologist. Guess I'll call and schedule something when I get back.
