Home Brrr Home

Well, I'm home from another trip from the freezing north. Its a tad cold in my home too, good thing my flight from DFW to MHK was delayed, otherwise it would probably be colder.
When did I schedule the vacation hold on my thermostat? I was sure I had done it just before 8pm the night before I left....setting a 5 day hold, so that it would expire well before I got home. But, evidently it had gotten super cold in my home so it took a long time to recover. It was 62 when I got home, and it is try to get to 68......based on how much its gone up in about 45 minutes...I guess it has been working since around 8pm to get up from 50 (where I had set the hold at, I'll probably need to rethink the vacation hold bottom.)
Meanwhile, I found my missing smartphone. I didn't leave it plugged in...in the hallway like I thought I had. But, I had remembered to pick it up from there, but I had set it down when I had stopped to unplug my hot water pot....and forgot it there.
As for how the flight home went...leaving Calgary for DFW was uneventful. Going through customs was somewhat easier thanks to Global Entry, though I'm not sure why I don't also have Nexus....wonder what's involved in getting that added. Though the trip into Canada was relatively painless this time. Though I did get picked for secondary screening before security.... And, seems they subject ultrathin computers to secondary screening as well. The picked on the thin macbook product of a person ahead of me...and my chromebook, but they didn't test my thicker Lenovo laptop or other beasts that I recall for people around me. Though was kind of annoyed that Chromebook always turns on when you open it...a complete shutdown really should leave it off. It didn't seem happy about starting to turn itself back on from the complete shutdown, and then getting closed. But, airport security just wanted to swab the keyboard.
When I tried to turn it on....it demanded that it be online to complete 'setup'. What? Even though we had passed 10,000 ft and approved electronic devices could be used, and later reached cruising altitude of 32,000 ft. gogoinflight wasn't working. None of the reasons it wasn't available didn't apply....apparently it needed to be completely in the US to work, though it had continued to work close to landing.
Also, some sites have pictures of a status window, why isn't there one on the chromebook. I really hate it when I'm working on a blog posting in the cloud and the connection just stops and I can't save my post anywhere.
Anyways...it was really annoying waiting for Internet to become available before I could use my chromebook again. It works offline normally, but it seemed set on needing to be 'setup' before I could do anything. Though all my settings were there when it was done (but there was no way to the settings page before this...)
As for the urge to sleep during take off...that happened during the take off from Calgary, though I fought harder to stay up, because I wanted to maximize my Internet time. Since the alternative to passing the time was probably to play lots of unolingo on my kindle fire. Which I got in a few sets during the flight from DFW to MHK.
I hear the Chicago flight to Manhattan was delayed an hour...again. I had heard in the terminal in Calgary that the United flight that comes in after my AA flight departs hadn't left Chicago yet and that there was now an ATC 45 minute delay in/out of Chicago... Seems to happen a lot with Chicago lately... So, they would help passengers once they take care of getting the current AA flight out. We were only 2 minutes late leaving...but we arrived 10 minutes early, and ended up going to a different gate.
No urge to sleep on the flight from DFW to MHK. Not really feeling the urge to sleep now that I'm home....but the 68 has been reached, and I'm starting to feel the drafts in the living room (thermostat is in the warmest spot of my home)....and I haven't resorted to setting up space heater in living room yet. Guess I should see about it....though I didn't use it at all last year....so might be interesting turning it on for the first time.
Of course, I missed changing the smoke detector batteries on Christmas Day this year....so I'll probably do that later this weekend.
